Michelle Jonas Travelwear, a division of Michelle Jonas Designs, is a premium resort wear line designed by Michelle Jonas, manufactured in downtown Los Angeles. Founded in 2005, the line epitomizes the breezy, relaxed, earthy-chic California girl. MJT utilizes the highest quality fabrications with easy yet sophisticated tailoring to create versatile and sexy signature silhouettes. the line caters to a traveling lifestyle: Each piece can be washed and dried, thrown into a suitcase and worn for any occasion, without worrying about wrinkles.

As the vision and soul of the line, Michelle Jonas has an extensive fashion background covering every area of the industry.  Jonas is a self-proclaimed “Army brat” considering seven countries home by the time she was 16 years old. Traveling exposed her to a fascinating world of culture and diversity, which she has incorporated into her designs. A love of fashion runs in Jonas’ family. Some of her earliest childhood memories involve spending time with her mother while she sewed clothing for family and friends.

Jonas’ first job in New York City was in fashion advertising/marketing as an assistant account executive at The Arnell Group where she worked on the Donna Karan account and helped build the brand’s image. Jonas also assisted in styling the Donna Karan advertising campaigns and created new marketing concepts. It was here that Jonas learned about creating a niche market in the fashion industry.

Jonas transitioned into freelance styling, and was asked to join the Vanity Fair styling team and work under Fashion Director Marina Schiano. From there, Jonas served as the Market Editor for Madesmoiselle and was offered a position at Vogue, working under Accessories Director Candy Pratts Price and Editor in Chief, Anna Wintour. While at vogue, Jonas often collaborated with designers working to get their designs featured in the pages of the renowned magazine. These experiences helped Jonas realize her true passion for design.

Jonas was then personally asked by Ralph Lauren to work with him in developing a new fashion forward line, “Ralph.” Lauren considered Jonas the epitome of the “Ralph” girl – fashion conscious and modern, with a personal style that exudes femininity and classic taste.

After working with Lauren, Jonas decided to pursue acting aspirations, and landed roles in films such as Mike Figgis’ “One Night Stand” and HBO’s “Gia” with Angelina Jolie, who later became a big fan of Jonas’ Hippie Dress. Jonas relocated to Hollywood, and continued acting for several years while styling celebrities in between acting jobs. Several of Jonas’ clients included Mark Wahlberg and Heather Graham.

After a few years in LA, Michelle started her own clothing line, MiJo, which evolved into Michelle Jonas Travelwear. Jonas chose to target the resort market, while everyone in fashion seemed to be creating the next denim or t-shirt line. Jonas began branding and creating a product for a huge, untapped market. The end result is chic California-cool, a style that is classically original, playfully confident, and comfortably sexy.

In addition to creating garments that give women a self-assured sense of sensual confidence, Jonas dedicates much of her time to numerous charities for women and children. Just a few of the charity organizations that Jonas collaborates with on a regular basis include Women for Women International, Laela Project, Children Mending Heart, IRC, Cambodian Children’s Fund, Man Up, Project Angel Food, Divine Design, Baby Buggy Foundation, and the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Awareness.
